What begins as his father’s scattered account of growing up in Greenwich turns into something else. Childhood fights. Family violence. Missing people. Old grudges. Deaths that never sat right. Strange digressions that seem pointless until they suddenly aren’t.

Much of Vinny’s everyday world comes from V Le Chenz’s own life in Greenwich, giving the novel a lived-in look at the 1970s and 1980s—the neighborhoods, schools, jobs, class lines, language, and everyday life as he remembers them.

And beneath all of it is the little red house on Pemberwick Road.

The dirt cellar.

The Pember family.

Stories of ritual, curses, and marked ground beneath the property long before Vinny was born.

Jake keeps reading.

Then he starts investigating.

The stories come back in a different order.

And worse.

What Vinny remembered as a child does not always match what Jake uncovers as a man. Some people were not who Vinny thought they were. Some deaths were not what they appeared to be. And some things buried in Greenwich did not stay buried.

Decades later, Vinny reconnects with a fictionalized Dabney Coleman, a man he first met and spent time with during his California years. This time, Coleman seems to understand something about Vinny that Vinny never understood about himself.

Vinny da Guinea is a psychological, fictionalized true-crime, and occult thriller about fathers and sons, murder, memory, class, family secrets, and the dangerous distance between what happened and what a family decides to remember.
